Why to document process?

Documentation ensures business continuity and has many benefits including ability for the organization to demonstrate improvements in its systems over time.
Written processes define the baseline standards of the organization and are refined to form basis of Quality management systems, Excellence models etc.
Project Management,Quality management systems, Excellence Models,Software Engineering, Network Architecture, Database design, data modeling All of them has one thing common, their reliance on clear and crisp documentation specially the flow charts, process mapping etc.

One of the most important skill that has helped me through the years is the skill of process mapping,developing flow charts, approval from all the stake holders and publishing for the end user.
Process mapping is an essential skill required in in the field of process engineering, process mapping, SAP business process documentation, consulting, Quality management (ISO,EFQM), Customer services, Business process outsourcing, Business process modeling and many more.

Tools to use:

Basic flow charts

Basic tools to develop flow charts,process charts etc is available in Microsoft word and PowerPoint but they have their own limitations. You can quickly make a organo gram or explain a process on a higher level but if you need to present everything in details and have a clear presentation of interactions then you need to use advanced tools like MS Visio. There are many more software's available in the market but i will stick to the one i spent most of my time on.
